Formats and Competitions

The three cricket formats and the competitions followed most closely

Cricket is Bangladesh's favourite sport, and at laki you can bet on all three major formats. Each format moves at a different pace, so the betting markets differ as well.

T20

A match of just 20 overs — fast results and big-hitting cricket. Most BPL and IPL matches are played in T20 format. In-play odds change every ball, making live betting the most popular option here.

ODI

A 50-over match — this format is central to the ICC World Cup and bilateral series. When the mid-match situation shifts, so do the betting opportunities.

Test

A long match spread over five days — a draw is a possible result. Session-by-session markets and innings-based bets set Test betting apart.

Popular Competitions

BPL, IPL and International Cricket

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is the most talked-about tournament among local fans. The IPL is also hugely popular, as the best cricketers in the world take part. The ICC T20 World Cup and the Bangladesh Tigers' bilateral series bring excitement on the international stage. At laki, you can bet across multiple markets in all these competitions.

Interest in football betting is also growing. If you want to play slots alongside cricket betting, the laki Slots page has many options.

Football and other sports alongside cricket

laki is not limited to cricket — football is also a major part of the offering. From European leagues to international matches, football covers match winner, goalscorer and half-time markets.

The key difference between cricket and football betting is the number of possible outcomes — a draw is possible in football, so odds are split across three results. In cricket (limited-overs matches) one of the two teams generally wins. Understanding this difference helps when analysing odds.

Betting Markets

The 7 most popular bet types in cricket

Each market works differently. Below is a brief overview with common examples.

Match Winner

Which team will win — that is the core question. In limited-overs cricket there are only two outcomes: Team A or Team B.

Example: if Team A is the favourite their odds will be lower, and if Team B is the underdog their odds will be higher.
Simplest

Toss Winner

Bet on the outcome of the toss — can be placed any time before the match, with odds for both teams usually close to even.

Example: odds for Team A and Team B are nearly equal, because the toss is entirely random.
Pre-Match

Top Batsman

Which batsman will score the most runs — within a team or across the entire match.

Example: bet on which batter in Team A will score the most runs.
Player Market

Total Runs — Over/Under

This market is about whether the total runs in the match (or in one innings) will be above or below a set number.

Example: if the line is set at 160 runs in an innings, you choose "over" or "under".
Totals

Multi Bet

Combine multiple matches or markets into a single bet — if all selections are correct, the return is larger.

Example: three matches at odds of 1.40, 1.50 and 1.90 — combined odds 1.40 × 1.50 × 1.90 = 3.99. A ৳100 bet returns ৳399 if all win, but if even one loses the entire ৳100 is gone.
Multiple

Over of First Wicket

Predict which over the first wicket will fall in — a particularly popular market in T20.

Example: the main question is whether a wicket will fall in the powerplay (overs 1–6).
Special Market

Handicap Betting

The stronger team is given a run deficit and the weaker team is given an advantage, creating a more balanced bet.

Example: if Team A is given a −15 run handicap, they must win by more than 15 runs for the bet to win.

Understanding Odds

How to read decimal, fractional and American odds

The odds for the same match can be written in three different formats. Most bettors in Bangladesh are comfortable with the decimal format.

Format Team A (not favourite) Team B (favourite)
Decimal 2.25 1.50
Fractional 5/4 1/2
American +125 −200

Example 1 — Team A (odds 2.25)

On a ৳1,000 bet, if Team A wins the total return is ৳2,250 — of which ৳1,250 is profit and ৳1,000 is the original stake. If Team A loses, the full ৳1,000 is gone. Decimal 2.25 = fractional 5/4 = American +125 — all three represent the same value.

Example 2 — Team B (favourite, odds 1.50)

If Team B is the favourite the odds are 1.50 — a ৳1,000 bet returns ৳1,500 if they win (profit ৳500). American −200 means you must stake ৳200 to win ৳100.

Higher odds mean greater potential profit — but the chance of winning is generally lower too. It is important to understand the odds before placing a bet.

Live Betting

Odds shift with wickets and overs — in-play betting

In-play or live betting is the most dynamic side of cricket betting. You can place bets after the match has started, and odds change with every ball or over.

When a wicket falls, the batting team's odds lengthen because they are in a weaker position. When runs come quickly in the powerplay, the odds on the "over" for total runs shorten.

In the final overs, when few runs are needed, the batting team's winning odds move close to 1. Bowling changes, weather and pitch conditions also affect in-play odds.

Follow the match carefully when live betting — analyse the situation before making a decision rather than acting in a rush.

Betting Tips

Things to keep in mind before you start betting

  • Understand the odds clearly — the same odds can be written in three formats, but the underlying value is the same.
  • Split your budget rather than putting everything on one bet — multi bets carry higher risk because one wrong selection loses the whole stake.
  • In live betting, read the flow of the match before placing a bet rather than rushing.
  • The final overs of a T20 match are very important — the situation can change dramatically.
  • Betting is for entertainment — placing large bets to recover losses is not a good idea.
  • Play responsibly. Read the responsible gaming guide for more information.

FAQ

Questions about cricket betting

A T20 match ends in just 20 overs, so odds shift quickly and in-play betting moves at a faster pace. An ODI spans 50 overs, meaning mid-match conditions change more gradually and session-based markets are more common. In T20, powerplay and death-over markets are especially popular.

You can add multiple matches or markets together. An example with three selections: odds of 1.40, 1.50 and 1.90 combined give 1.40 × 1.50 × 1.90 = 3.99 (approximately). On a ৳100 bet, if all selections are correct the return is ৳399. However, if even one selection is wrong, the entire ৳100 is lost.

Odds update with every event in the match — when a wicket falls the batting team's odds lengthen, and when a big shot is hit they shorten. At the end of each over, the bowling or batting team's odds are recalculated based on the score. In the final few overs, as the result draws closer, odds can swing sharply.

Yes — in Test cricket three results are possible: Team A wins, Team B wins, and a draw. So the match winner market in a Test has three sets of odds. In limited-overs matches a draw is generally not possible, so only two sets of odds are offered.

In American odds, a minus (−) sign means that team is the favourite. −200 means you need to stake ৳200 to win ৳100 in profit. In decimal format this is 1.50. A plus (+) sign means that team is the underdog — +125 means a ৳100 stake wins ৳125 in profit, with a total return of ৳225 (decimal 2.25).
